Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Cryolipolysis (Fat Freeze)?
Cryolipolysis, also referred to as Fat Freeze or Lipo Freeze, is the latest 360 degree non-invasive, non-surgical, clinically proven method of eliminating stubborn areas of fat and cellulite on the face and body using cooling technology.
Does It Work?
ABSOLUTELY! There are multiple clinical trials, celebrity reviews and before and after photos which back up the effectiveness of Cryolipolysis. Please see our client testimonials and our before and after results page.
Is Cryolipolysis (Lipo Freeze) safe?
Cryolipolysis is a branded, FDA-approved form of fat reduction. It is non-invasive, meaning it does not involve surgery, cuts, or anaesthetic, so it carries a lot less risk than liposuction. With Cryolipolysis treatment the risks are few and rare. Side effects are mild, if any and go away after a short time.
Cryolipolysis uses freezing temperatures to break down fat cells. Cold does not damage other cells in the way it does fat cells, so there should be no damage to the skin or underlying tissue.
What Will The Results Be?
After only one session you can expect to achieve up to a 40% reduction in the number of fat cells in the area treated. To gain the best possible results you will need follow your aftercare plan and ensure you are drinking at least 2L of water per day. If you gain weight following your treatment by not maintaining a healthy lifestyle, this will have a negative impact on your results.
When Will I See The Results?
The results depend entirely on the individual, the fat thickness and the area treated. Some of our clients will see visible results within as little as 4 weeks, in some cases even sooner. These results will continue to increase up until week 12 when you will see the outcome of your results.
How Long Do Cryolipolysis Results Last?
The amount of cells destroyed and eliminated from the body after Cryolipolysis remains permanent, as adults do not produce new fat cells. That said, our fat cells will expand if we gain weight after Cryolipolysis causing an increase in the size of the remaining fat cells. Doctors recommend you focus on maintaining your ideal weight, along with sufficient exercise following the procedure and the results should last a lifetime.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
One session of Cryolipolysis is enough for most areas. Depending upon the thickness of the fat and your personal body goals, treatment may be repeated in the same area a second time. If you decide you would like further reduction of the same area, it is best to have a waiting time of 6 weeks between sessions. This is to provide sufficient time to measure the effectiveness of the initial treatment.
How Long Is The Session?
Your initial consultation will take around 10 – 15 minutes. Following on from this, your treatment session will last 45 minutes, unless you require treatments on the back as well as the front of your body, which will double the treatment time. Our Cryo Quattro machine can treat up to four areas simultaneously in one session although, the front of the body cannot be treated at the same time as the back.
What Will I Feel During The Session?
You will feel a pulling sensation due to the vacuum effect used to secure the targeted area in place. Next, you will feel a warm sensation as the machine enters the heating stage. Once the heating stage is completed, the applicator will fall to minus temperatures which will give you an intense cold feeling that will soon fade away as the area becomes numb. This is an unusual feeling, but not painful therefore, no anaesthetic or numbing cream is required during the treatment. We regularly have clients fall asleep during their treatment.
What Will I Feel After The Session?
Generally, Cryolipolysis has very few side effects. Usually, the treated area will be cold/numb and show signs of short-term redness after the session. Rarely, you might experience slight bruising, due to the vacuum (comparable to a love bite) that will fade within a few days. Very rarely, swelling, superficial bruising and extended redness can occur.
Immediately after your treatment you can resume regular daily activities without discomfort or, go back to work if your session was in your lunch hour.
What Happens To The Fat Cells That Have Been Treated?
The fat freezing procedure involves controlled cooling within the temperature range of below 9°C. This destroys the fat cells through a natural process called apoptosis (natural cell death), other cells within the body are not as sensitive to the freezing process and are therefore unaffected.
As the fat cells are destroyed, they leave the body naturally through the lymphatic system, resulting in up to a 40% reduction of the thickness of the fat layer.
How Long Should I Wait After Childbirth To Have Cryolipolysis?
Generally, you should wait a minimum of 6 months (if not longer) after the birth of your baby if it was a normal delivery, or a minimum of 12 months after a C section. It is best to be at a long-term stable weight prior to undergoing Cryolipolysis, as this allows you to have the areas that are resistant to diet and exercise treated. It is advised that you get GP approval post childbirth prior to commencing with treatment. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please contact us and we will be more than happy to assist.
What Happens If I Get Pregnant After Cryolipolysis?
Cryolipolysis will not affect any future pregnancies, and your reproductive system is not affected in any way, therefore, it poses no risks to your baby. However, it’s important to note that every woman’s body responds differently to pregnancy, and should you conceive after Cryolipolysis, you may require a further treatment to restore your initial results. If you’re planning on getting pregnant in the near future, you may want to postpone having Cryolipolysis until after you have given birth.
Am I A Good Candidate For Fat Freezing?
Yes, if you are an adult and store fat in well-defined areas such as the stomach, back, inner thighs, love handles, bingo wings and double chins.
Fat freezing works both, equally on men as it does women.
Can I Be Treated When There Is Scar Tissue In The Target Area?
Upon evaluation of your scar by the therapist who will be administering the Cryolipolysis treatment, you will find out if you have healed enough to be eligible for the treatment.
Can I Have Cryolipolysis If I Have Diabeties?
Your physician may want to understand more about your diabetes and whether it is under control prior to treating you. However, diabetes is not a contraindication for Cryolipolysis. It may be a safer alternative to surgery for you.
Can I Have Cryolipolysis After Breast Cancer?
Once you are in remission, it is safe to have Cryolipolysis performed. In fact, we encourage any safe and effective treatment that will make you feel more confident!
